Monthly Workout Roundup – June 2017

In the past, I wrote weekly workout roundups. This time, I decided to try monthly recaps instead. Now that I’m not Crossfitting as often as I used to, some of my workouts are pretty uneventful. So now, I’m going to talk about some of the highlights each month, rather than writing about every workout I do each week.

Friday, June 9

I hit a 3-RM power clean of 100lbs!

Monday, June 12

The WOD was Fight Gone Bad. However, instead of doing sumo-deadlift high pulls, we did kettlebell swings. The prescribed kettlebell weights were 53/35. I never asked why the coach subbed the movement, but I’m sure she had a reason for it.

I was really excited to do this workout. In general, circuit-style workouts tend to be my favorite. I also wanted to see if I improved since the last time I tested this WOD, which was only 2 or 3 months after I started Crossfit.

Well, I didn’t improve on reps as much as I would have liked. However, I did the whole workout RX’d! I didn’t write down the weights I used the first time I did this WOD, but I know for certain that I didn’t do the RX weights. I was pretty proud of myself for not having to scale the weight this time.

Monday, June 19

I decided to run instead of going to the gym. The humidity was pretty terrible, even at 5:30am, but somehow I still managed to pull out a decent 30-minute run.

It made me remember how much I love to just run sometimes. It doesn’t matter if I go slow (and I usually do) because no one else is watching me and a coach isn’t yelling at me. I also love being outside before work while everyone else is still in bed. My neighborhood is very peaceful first thing in the morning, and it really helps me set the tone for the rest of the day.

Sunday, June 25

Another running day. Sundays are usually my rest days, but the weather was around 70 degrees and sunny (with no humidity this time!). I wanted to get outside to enjoy it. I managed to get in a fairly easy 3 miles.

And here I am, resting on the floor with my dog Charlie, after I returned home and finished stretching.

And that sums up my favorite workouts from the past month. I’m going to be focusing more on a traditional strength program for the next few weeks, so I’ll be sure to provide updates on that with my next monthly wokrout roundup!
